Tuesday August 10, 2010Adler Opens in Saskatoon
On July 30th, Adler Insulation & Firestopping officially opened our Saskatoon branch. Amidst all the barbecued meat and brouhaha, Andrew Beliveau (Regional Manager for Saskatchewan) even managed to give away some fantastic doorprizes and a heart-stopping grand prize… Dave Baker from Suer & Pollon is now the proud owner of a brand new Apple iPad. Congratulations and enjoy. Special thanks to Schryers BBQ for their messy, yet tasty lunch. And thanks to all of the Adler employees for making the opening of the Saskatoon office run as smoothly as possible.

Meet Grace Plett: Office Manager, Mother, and Chocolate Fiend
Psst...Calgary Office Manager, Grace Plett
has a secret: she loves spreadsheets. Grace has been with Adler Insulation & Firestopping since January of 2006 and has been having a blast every step of the way. When asked what her favourite duties are in the office, payroll, spreadsheets and problem solving top her list; but nothing beats working with the team at Adler. “I love working with the people,” says Grace. “I can say that working at Adler has never been boring. We’re always growing, expanding and changing (improving).” Asked why she plans on sticking around at Adler, Grace brings it back to the “awesome team” and the value Adler places on its employees.
Grace is not only an Office Manager, but a wife and mother to four (yes, four) children; Nathan, Shaina, Madelyn & Elisa. “What I find the most interesting about my life is my family. My 4 kids range in age from 17-23 and are all fantastic individuals who keep me entertained, challenged and current. The world is before them and they’re chasing after it with everything they’ve got. They’re challenged and motivated by what they don’t yet know and by what they haven’t yet experienced. I am constantly reminded not to get stuck in a rut and to embrace every new expectation as an opportunity for personal growth.” Constantly motivated by her beautiful children, Grace is always on the move with her husband of 25 years, Doug. And when Grace isn’t working or with her family, she’s thinking about cooking or renovating, or watching the
Food Network.
3 Things You May Not Know About Grace:
- Grace doesn’t mind the cold: she was actually raised in Manitoba.
- In September, Grace is flying to the other side of the world. She is going to visit her son, Nathan, who lives in Shanghai, and plans to see the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.
- Grace has a foodie-crush on Bernard Callebaut. After sitting next to him at a wedding, she just can’t get the smell of chocolate out of her head! Watch out Doug…

Sheila Scheewe: How Does Your Garden Grow?
Based on the Squarefoot Gardening Concept from Mel Bartholomew, novice gardener Sheila Scheewe has grown a virtual cornucopia of veggies this year. The concept is taken from the book All New Square Foot Gardening: Grow More in Less Space and talks about the idea of growing your own fresh food regardless of the space you have available.

Step 1
Curt Scheewe constructed 11 boxes made out of non-treated wood in just over 1.5 hours. These boxes are 4’ x 4’ and hold 8” of a specific soil mixture: 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 coarse vermiculate and 1/3 mixed compost.

Step 2
Even though Sheila planted before the first frost (gasp), these simply constructed domes (PCV pipe and plastic sheeting) allowed her family to be harvesting by early June.

Step 3
Behold the bounty of the Square Foot garden! The Scheewe family will be feasting this summer on: radishes, garlic, cucumbers, corn, tomatoes, peas, carrots, swiss chard, lettuce, beets, and much, much more!
