Is Your Building Compliant?

Inline Image

Is the firestop installation on your project or in your building compliant?

If you don’t know the answer, you’re not alone. Adler Firestopping can work with you to answer this question, and ensure that your firestopping systems are up to code.

Firestopping is a specialized trade and as such is sometimes misunderstood and/or misinterpreted. However, there are industry standards in place to evaluate proper firestop design, installation, inspection and maintenance. For example, the standard for proper firestop design is mandated by the National Building Code of Canada; which sets the MINIMUM REQUIREMENT for construction compliance. Unfortunately, this minimum requirement is not often achieved. The building code and fire code requires that firestop systems must pass the CAN/ULC-S115 fire test standard and be installed where the integrity of a fire rated wall and/or floor assembly is compromised by construction joints and/or service penetrations.

Firestop systems are selected to match the architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical design and must be co-ordinated with the construction schedule of a project.

The National Fire Code of Canada and International Fire Code references the standard for proper firestop maintenance; which states that integrity of fire rated assemblies must be maintained. The IFC suggests a minimum standard of performing an annual review of fire rated assemblies since buildings are continually being renovated and services are added, moved and deleted.

Our team at Adler Firestopping can work with you to find the best possible solutions that will ensure that your building is compliant, and help you learn more about industry standards for proper firestop design, installation, inspection and maintenance.

Payroll, Harleys & ...Shoes?

Inline Image

Since 2005, Heather Atkey has been doing admin and payroll at Adler. She knows that with every year comes change at this ever-evolving business and she welcomes it. She relishes helping others: in 1998 she and her family spent 6 months in Nepal helping a community in Kathmandu. She also got a chance to work on the Adler Guatemala project in 2008, and that meant a lot to her… because Heather is a gal with a big heart.

Some facts about Heather: She’s into relaxing in the sun, doesn’t quite know how she feels about Speedos and loves to spend time with her extremely close family. Married for 24 years to an “amazing man”, she has three kids aged 19-22 and loves to ride her hubby’s Harley. On the weekends she plays poker with some regulars (her biggest win was $360 – not too shabby) and loves going to concerts (Billy Idol and Rush were two favourites.) But Heather also has a deep dark secret that you may not know: she absolutely adores shoes and cars.

Shoes and cars...? For some, an odd combination but not so for the Manitoba native; for her the two fit perfectly together: the perfect combination of sugar and spice. She has a fetish for pumps, namely Michael Antonio heels, and has built up quite a collection. She also desires a different kind of collection – one that involves tires, chrome and revving engines. Heather’s fantasy is to own an Aston Martin One-77, and an Infinity Essence among other luxury vehicles. (She also covets her husband’s bike and wants her own HD Rocker one day.)

Heather’s motto is “Love to enjoy life and find the positive in it.” A motto she takes to heart and lives her life by. Whether at work or at play, you can be sure that she’ll be working her heart out by day and rocking out in her pumps at night.
