Adler is Now ISNetworld Compliant

Inline Image

We have some good news on the safety front for Adler. We are now ISNetworld compliant! This designation is widely accepted as the standard used for most industrial and large commercial projects to evaluate our safety environment. Becoming ISN approved was the next step in our continued journey towards safety excellence, in turn, we now have access to a larger client base.

ISNetworld is one of many key safety pre-qual companies in the world. They cater to clients such as Shell, ESSO, Chevron, BP, Encana, ENMAX, TransAlta, Weyerhauser and more.
ISNetworld is a safety rating organization for many major companies in the oil and gas and potash industries. They will collect our conformance information and provide their clients with current results for Adler during the bidding process.  This will enable us to gain better and quicker access to these industry giants.

ISN thrives to foster safer working environments, as do we at Adler. For more information on ISNetworld visit: www.isnetworld.com

Ken Bobst on Life, Bikes and Being a Grandparent

Inline Image

Ken Bobst is a Senior Project Manager with Adler and says that the “combination of longevity, the position and the people” keep him coming back to work every day. He’s motivated to get the job done and has fun doing it.

He enjoys the simple things in life; he likes golf, not hockey. Likes Tiger Woods but … doesn’t like Tiger Woods (‘cause of some stuff…) Ken is married with 4 kids and almost 5 grandkids, and he enjoys every minute of hanging out with them, and then sending them home so he can hang out with his wife (“we just get the fun stuff”).

He and his wife spend their free time camping (hopefully soon with the grandkids too) and love riding their motorcycles (he has a Yamaha and she a Suzuki) to rallies in Canada and the States. They plan on hitting the Sturgis Bike Rally this year in Montana. During the rest of his spare time he obsesses about his lawn: “…greenest on my street all year long.”

And that’s all he had to say on the subject of Ken.

Ken Bobst is a man of few words, so I asked his colleagues if they thought I had missed anything:  “Ken makes his opinion heard and always backs up his team. He truly feels that he is only an extension of his crew and is a great mentor for the younger employees at Adler,” said an anonymous source. " And he won't like me saying this, but I'm saying it anyway."

Thanks Joe "Anonymous". And thanks to you Ken for leading, inspiring, and taking such great care of your lawn.

Oilers vs. Flames: Thoughts on a Decades Old Rivalry

Inline Image

A Canucks fan, a Flames fan and an Oilers fan are climbing a mountain and arguing about who loves their team the most. The Canucks fan insists that he is the most loyal and he yells ”this is for Vancouver!”and jumps off the mountain. Not to be out done, the Oilers fan next professes his love for his team. He screams, "this is for Edmonton!!” and pushes the Flames fan off the mountain.

It’s a rivalry that has been raging for, well, at least as long as I’ve been alive. The Oilers versus the Flames; Edmonton versus Calgary… Good versus Evil. The battle of Alberta is a hot topic every Autumn, and we all cross our fingers and hope that maybe this year we’ll get to see the good old blue and orange on that ice one more time with the red and yellow grasping for that big beautiful silver cup.

For you see, even though Oilers fans may despise the Flames and vice versa, deep down we all know that if one of these hard-working Alberta hockey teams actually makes it into the Stanley Cup finals, our allegiance will change immediately. And for those few glorious games, we will band together as brothers and sisters… Sweaty, beer-swilling, frothy-mouthed relatives, so amped up we could at any moment break into a riot that may end the world.

Are either of the teams actually better than the other though?

Let us compare:
Oilers Stats:

  • The future looks bright with fantastic first round picks: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall, Magnus Paajarvi, Jordan Eberle and Sam Gagner
  • The Oilers have “The Ryan Smyth Factor”: he bleeds blue, as they say, and can lead the team to the Cup. Horcoff and Hemsky ain’t so bad themselves.
  • The Oilers have an amazing 5 Stanley Cups.
  • In recent years Oilers lost in the Stanley Cup final game 7 vs. the Carolina Hurricanes 2006-2007: we all died a little that day.

Flames Stats

  • The season looks like it’s off to a good start with their first round picks: Sven Baertschi, Tim Erixon, Greg Nemisz, Mikael Backlund
  • Yes, they have Jarome Iginla ,“The Iggy Factor:: he’s a gold-medal winning God.
  • The Flames have an astounding 1 Stanley Cup (seriously, it is astounding that they have won even a single Cup.)
  • In recent years they lost in the Stanley Cup final game 7 vs. the Tampa Bay 2003-2004 –yes, even Edmontonians were a little sad.

So, although the Oilers have more Stanley Cups under their belt, they are frighteningly even in their skill level and really, we should all be putting aside our differences for the love of the game, not the hatred of a team just because it’s what we were taught as children. Let’s cheer for Alberta this year and join our two equally awesome cities as one big, loving fan base.
(Oh, and one more thing: Oilers Rule, Flames Drool.)

Here’s a look at the classic rivalry.
