Adler Fitness is Open for Business!

Inline Image

For those of you who thought Adler Fitness was just a dream, the day has arrived… The fitness centre built by you, for you is open and waiting for the sweating to start! After roughly 6 months of hardcore volunteer participation and dedication, the gym is a soothing, cozy workout facility with only one purpose: to get you fit! Gym visionary, Bob Frolich thinks fondly back on the last 6 months…

What was the best part about building the gym?
My 80 year old father came out of retirement to help mud and tape the room with me. I had learned the trade from him as a young boy so to work with him again 40 years later was an honour. I think he out worked me too. The initial week of construction we had many eager volunteers that wanted to help frame the first wall. With the pneumatic air-nailer and hammers pounding away, the first wall was built with much haste. However the old carpenter’s proverb, “measure twice and cut once” was not closely adhered to. Suffice it to say the wall had to be dismantled due to measurement irregularities.

What was the hardest part?

Completion was the hardest part. The small finishing details took the most time.

Was your time “donated”?
Adler management graciously allowed me to work on this project full-time.

What is the best piece of equipment donated?
The Shake Weight

What is the Adler 100?
This is a contest to promote fitness and healthy lifestyle choices for Adler’s office staff. On the honour system, points are awarded for every 30 minutes that one works out (at home or the office). Once 100 points are reached, a custom made Adler Dri-Fit workout shirt is awarded.

There you have it –the workout facility that is going to help Adler employees get fit and have fun. We invite all staff to join the Adler 100 and challenge yourself.
(At the very least you can stop by and try the Shake Weight.)

Catch Him if You Can: Andrew “Lance Armstrong” Jack

Inline Image

The past 5 years have flown by for Andrew Jack, literally. Not only has he spent that time working his way from the field to Project Manager in Adler’s Firestopping Division, he has also been helping his beloved wife Rebecca raise their four boys (ages from 9 years to 19 months), biking, cooking, and pursuing Firestopping UL certification with his team (among other things). Andrew Jack is living his life at super-human speed, and enjoying every minute.

Excited by the boom in the Firestopping industry in Northern Alberta, Andrew and his team have been working hard to overcome the challenges to improve management systems. He cites his team’s dedication and growth as what propels him on in his position and his daily inspiration. But Andrew’s job is not the most interesting thing about him.

Andrew is an avid outdoorsman and in his own words loves “to go fast.” Whether his wife and kids tag along or partake in the activities, Andrew chooses hobbies that recharge him. He snow-shoes, skis, runs… but his favourite outdoor activity is cycling. As a kid, his bike gave him independence and cycling still acts as a common interest for his circle of friends. He started racing road bikes when he was fourteen and competed internationally in his twenties in high profile races in North America. After putting 30,000-35, 000 kilometres on his bike per year, he hung up his racing gloves and now just makes friendly wagers with his friends. But he still goes fast…

His love of cycling also introduced him to another passion: food and wine. While racing with a team is Niagara, Ontario, Andrew spent time in wine country and at his Grandmother’s farm where she grew soft fruits including wine grapes. He also spent some time in California soaking up the sun and developing a true love for the vine. What goes better with wine, than food? While noshing with people he met on his travels – all from different cultures and places – Andrew started aspiring to cook. He landed a job in a fine dining establishment in Toronto where he did a full apprenticeship and achieved the interprovincial Red Seal. (Dude can cook.) Andrew soon found himself burnt out and in need of a change… Enter Curt Scheewe and a job offer from Adler.

So, there you have it the recent history of Andrew Jack. If you need him this summer, you can look for him camping with his family in BC this summer, on the bike trails, in his kitchen or maybe at Adler. You may, however, need an appointment.

Spring in Edmonton: Rednecks Rejoice!

Inline Image

The warmer weather is finally here; the 7 feet of snow is almost gone and the city of Edmonton is once again a hub of redneck activity! People all over the City of Champions have shed their winter parkas and are flooding our city’s streets with their spring flare… a joie de vivre, if you will. Here are some of Adler’s favourite spring activities to take part in now that hockey season is over and BBQ season has begun.

Pimp Your Ride:

Get your ride pimped out and impress the opposite sex as you cruise down the avenue with your tunes pumpin’. (And really – who doesn’t need a 5-cab truck? It’s just practical in Alberta.)
