Tuesday December 21, 2010Crunch Time at Adler
As 2010 is coming to an end Adler would like to say how grateful we are to all our clients for the work over the year. 2010 started off a tad slow but we stuck to executing our sales strategy and ended the year hitting our targets.
The marketplace response to the recession has made quoting and forecasting project schedules a complex task. “Common feedback within the industry is that longer award periods on pending work make it difficult to be selective in quoting new work,” states Randy Perry – GM of Adler Firestopping. In turn, our field managers have been assigned with managing overlapping project schedules; as well as, short and unforeseen lead-times for manpower.
The encouraging part has been to see our staff step up to the plate in order to get the work done. We appreciate the collaboration with and support from our customers.
We are fortunate to be able to extend our “Welcome Mat” once again and start inviting new team members into the fray.
“We are continuing to strengthen and build our team to make sure that our customers will experience the best service possible. It will be a busy 2011 – which is great – we look forward to it!”
Thank-You to the whole team for their dedication and continuing hard work this year!

10 Unedited Rapid Fire Questions for Phil Henstridge: Saskatoon Field Manager
- How long have you lived in Saskatoon?
I moved to Saskatoon in July of 2008.
- When did you start at Adler?
I started working for Adler in October of 2007 in Edmonton. I started working for Adler in 1997, not 2007. Sorry about that. And it was in November of '97. Not October. I was going to take a semester off of school and make a little extra cash, but I fell in love with fibre glass. (The way it feels on your skin. Mmmmmmmm, sooooo good.) And decided to dedicate my life to the installation of insulation. Ten and a half years later I made the move to Saskatoon to head up Adler’s Saskatchewan division. It's been quite the wild ride. A lot of ups and downs along the way. But I wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe a better offer from someone else. ) Jk ;)
- What is your favourite thing about your position at Adler?
I enjoy the responsibility of my position. Keeps me on my toes.
- Are you married? Single?
I’ve been married to my lovely wife Melissa for 479 days, 8 hours, 23 mins and 11 seconds. Just kidding. 16 months.
- Kids?
I have 2 boys. Charlie is 2.5 years and Finn is almost 2. And they are a pain in my ass. Oh , I guess I should mention that they are my dogs.
- If you weren't in the job you're in at Adler, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t working at Adler, I would probably be successful. (I Kid. The boss reads these letters.)
- Do you travel? Where have you been?
I’ve been lucky enough to get to travel with Adler to Guatemala back in 2008. I’ve been to Israel, and the Caribbean.
- What was your favourite trip and why?
I really enjoyed the Guatemala trip. Just traveling with 12 or so of your good friends. Some of the experiences were quite unique. Like watching the security guard at the Houston airport, after giving us a hard time, completely take out a bench on a Segway and spill all over the ground. Man, was that funny. Take that TSA!!
- What are you doing for the holidays? New Years? What will you be doing at midnight?
I'll be traveling back to Edmonton to visit family during the Holidays. and as far as New Years goes, I'll probably have a quiet evening with my wife and be fast asleep by midnight.
- What's your favourite thing about the holidays?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends during the Holidays. But I really enjoy the time off and all the Christmas booze.
Merry Christmas Phil! Enjoy your warm holiday time with your lovely Melissa, your pain in the ass dogs and that sweet Christmas booze.

Top 5 Classic Christmas Movies: Why we watch year after year...
There’s something about this time of the year… the glistening snow, the spiked eggnog and of course, those holiday classics. As soon as someone mentions Christmas classics we all have that one movie that makes us feel warm and fuzzy; that one movie we’ll watch with the family over and over again. No one knows why Christmas movies have this effect on people, we just know that we look forward to them every holiday season.
Here are Adler’s Top 5 Holiday Movie Classics:
- Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas: That green face, that grinchy smile and the cutest wittle cutey-dog with one antler… Who can resist the allure of Boris Karloff’s slightly sinister narrative or the sparkle of Cindy-Lou Who’s blue eyes. Not us. And even though we’ll never understand the lyrics to the Who’s Christmas song, Who cares! It’s charming anyway. (Seriously – is it Wa-Hoo-Do-Ray? Wa-Hoo Flo-Ray?)
- It’s A Wonderful Life: No one can dispute the life-altering power of a portly cherubic simpleton giving George Bailey a glimpse of what the quaint town of Bedford Falls would be like without him. A true good vs. evil plot with the magic of Christmas to make it even more captivating… And even more essential that we tune in every year to watch evil old Mr. Potter get squashed like a bug for his irrational hatred of anything good.
- A Christmas Story: What do you get when you take a perfect 1940s background, throw in an inappropriately foul-mouthed Father, add a dash of nerdy kid, and sprinkle several random pesky bloodhounds, bullies and daydreams into the mix every now and again…? You get this classic Christmas show. How can you possibly miss the desperate attempts of Ralphie trying to squeeze a Red Ryder BB Gun out of his parents? “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!” The fact that he does actually shoot his eye out at the end of the movie makes the year-long wait worthwhile.
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: This movie has it all. A ridiculously large Christmas tree, impossible in-laws, snotty uber-chic neighbours, an enthusiastically lit house, a hostage scene… heck, it’s really a movie for all seasons. And no one rocks a dickie like Eddie. ‘Nuff said.
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: We tune in every year to watch Rudolph and Hermey the Elf find their life’s purpose in a cold, harsh North Pole with condescending elves, an uncharacteristically prejudiced Santa, mean reindeer and a crazy-dangerous abominable snowman fighting against them. And every year, we feel pure joy at the fact that Rudolph and Hermey are accepted into the good ole’ North Pole gang and that Santa will indeed gain enough weight to fit into his home-made Santa suit.
We hope you get as warm and fuzzy watching these as we do (the spiked eggnog helps.) Happy Holidays from Adler!
