Wednesday April 14, 2010Drawing His Own Conclusions
Dave Eikeland has been with Adler Insulation & Firestopping for 15 years, working his way up from the field to estimating jobs to his current position managing the Calgary office. Most of you already know that. What you don’t know is that Dave has been keeping a deep, dark secret all these years.
A long lost identical twin? Nope. Running from the law? Maybe. Dave’s deepest secret is about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting audience at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo at Stampede Park April 24/25, but we’re bringing you the inside scoop. This dude can really draw.
Having reached for paper and pencil his entire life, Dave started taking his sketch-based artwork seriously just a couple years ago. Viewing Dave’s artwork is like entering another world, one filled with lovesick robots, twisted cityscapes, strange machinery and even the odd sock octopus. The drawings explore a kind of dream world where the everyday is turned inside out, often with hilarious results. Working on his website drives him a bit crazy but the effort is paying off, and Dave is hard at work drawing a graphic novel to distribute online.
We always knew Dave made his best decisions under pressure.Check out this image he sketched during a staff meeting (and we thought he was sleeping...). If you’re in Calgary be sure to visit Dave’s table at the Comic Expo. The rest of us can view a bunch of Dave’s artwork at www.aunfin.com.

In Memoriam – Irma Scheewe
From the day Adler Insulation and Firestopping first opened our doors, this has always been a family business.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irma Scheewe on March 19, 2010 at the age of 82 years. When my father, Harold Scheewe, started this company in 1982 he did not do it alone. Of course there was the support of the staff, and the loyalty of our first customers, but behind the scenes was an even greater source of inspiration. Harold’s mother Irma (my grandmother) was instrumental in getting this company off the ground and making it fly. Her wisdom was a source of comfort and her faith helped guide my father through some rough times. When dad passed away on November 7, 1999, leaving the company to my sister Karla and myself, we never lost sight of the invaluable role our grandmother played.
If you knew Harold or Irma you were blessed. Please take a moment to view Irma Scheewe’s obituary and reflect on the strong people in our lives who don’t always get the credit, but give their support in so many ways.
-- Curt Scheewe, President & General Manager
