Tuesday March 9, 2010Adler Get's ULC Certified (It's not as scary as it sounds...)
Everybody knows the ULC, right? Half-naked, sweaty guys beating the crap out of each other in a steel octagon, right? Wait a second, that’s the UFC. The Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) is actually an independent, third-party agency that tests product safety and sets industry standards. Maybe it’s not as sexy and exciting as the UFC, but organizations like ULC are raising the bar in the firestop industry; which is why Adler General Manager Randy Perry fully supports their new program.
Randy is proud to let Adler’s loyal customers know that Adler Firestopping has been certified under the ULC’s new Qualified Firestop Contractor Program – an industry-first set of guidelines to separate the pros from the schmoes when it comes to getting the job done right. The ULC recently performed an audit, ensuring that Adler has the management system, staff training and product expertise to earn this gold star in the field of firestopping.
In the past, product manufacturers have ‘rubber stamped’ contractors in order to get their products out in the field, but all that is changing.
“There’s another company out of Winnipeg, but we’re the second organization in Canada to win this level of certification,” Randy says with pride. “Adler is making a commitment to surpass the industry standards so that our customers can rest assured that they are protected.”
The ULC QFCP was developed with assistance from the Firestop Contractors International Association, an organisation that Adler has been a member of for 5 years. Randy was elected to a two year term on the FCIA’s Board of Directors in 2009. “The FCIA has several committees such as Apprenticeship, Standards, Code and Technical with initiatives to raise the level of professionalism and education in our industry, which is the main reason why we invest so much of our resources in support.”
Just another example of how Adler Insulation and Firestopping stays ahead of the curve so our customers can have the one thing you can’t buy – peace of mind.

Hockey Dad to HR Dude - It's All in a Day's Work
Bob Frohlich is a people person. Now some folks might dismiss that as a cliché, but in Bob’s case it is quite literally true; as the Human Resources specialist for Adler Insulation and Firestopping, Bob’s business is making sure that Adler’s employees have everything they need to get the job done right.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Bob got his feet wet with a Business Administration diploma at NAIT before jumping into the working world. After selling computers and working in customer service for Delta airlines, Bob realized that he had a talent for reading people and connecting with them through stressful situations. After a gig as a corporate trainer and a church youth leader, Bob came to realize his passion for helping people reach their potential.
“People matter. Everybody has a story. What makes our employees the way they are? How can we nurture and support them so they bring their strengths to work every day? This isn’t just about cashing cheques and paying salaries – at Adler we want to take care of our employees’ physical and emotional health.”
As one of the newest members of the Adler family, Bob’s already singing in the right key. As Adler pursues a controlled growth strategy – riding out the boom and bust of our economy with sustainable HR practices – Bob’s focus is on keeping the machine running at peak performance. When he does make it home for dinner, Bob draws on the support of his wife Jan, a teacher, and his two sons. Being a good husband and a great hockey dad is pretty good practice for the coaching role Bob brings to the Adler family. Welcome aboard Bob!
